Should the Chicago Bulls draft LaMelo Ball?

The synopsis on LaMelo Ball is that he is an otherworldly and gifted passer. He will be compared to Ben Simmons, Luka Doncic and Trae Young as the best passer this generation. On the other hand, Ball is lacking any sort of restraint when it comes to his shot selection and his overall defense especially with gambling on steals.

Ball can become an efficient thief, having averaged 1.6 steals per game in the NBL. Far too often it is a gamble when they pay off, though it can be excellent and his steals almost always cause extremely effective and entertaining fast breaks.

There’s no real perfect pick for the Bulls or a perfect pick for any team for that matter in this draft. That’s why Ball could possibly slip and land at No.4 for the Chicago Bulls.

On the court, it fits relatively nicely with a true point guard for a team of young talented players with no real leadership, both on and off the court. The Bulls have many guards but none are great playmakers as Tomas Satoransky led the team in assists per game with 5.4. Ball has already displayed elite vision in a professional environment, and in the NBA these players will finish more of dimes that Ball darts to them.

Having LaMelo control the ball while LaVine and Wendell Carter rim run and having Coby White and Lauri Markkanen trailing is a recipe for points and highlights galore.

Ball is immediately a rating-boosting and highlight factory for any team that drafts him. With a new front office and for a franchise that had the least amount of nationally televised games this season, it would make sense to bring in LaMelo Ball.

The NBL’s most-watched game in history with two million views was the head to head matchup against the Next Stars of LaMelo Ball and R.J. Hampton. If the NBL can get two million viewers on a single game, imagine the numbers for a full Bulls season?

It would make sense for the Bulls to want to bring a bigger audience from the couch. They have historically been a great home attendance team. This especially could be a cash cow after the international success of the Last Dance documentary on the 1998 Chicago Bulls.

This could be a new era for the Chicago Bulls reflecting on the best of their past and now the best of their future.
