3. 1983 NBA Draft

Original pick: Darrell Walker (12th)

Re-Draft: Clyde Drexler (14th)

In the 1985 NBA Draft, the New York Knicks drafted Patrick Ewing with the first overall pick. Just imagine if they had drafted the great Clyde Drexler a couple of years prior to him. That’s a potential dynasty in the making.

Drafting Darrell Walker with the 12th overall pick is not to be considered a bad move whatsoever. Walker was an average NBA player, which is pretty much what you shoot for near the end of the lottery. This move just seems bad when you present it next to the Drexler blueprint.

Walker spent 3 seasons with the Knicks, averaging 10.6 points and 4.2 assists per game. He would go on to win a ring with the 1993 Chicago Bulls, before flipping over to a head coaching career.

Regarding Clyde the Glide, little can be said that isn’t already known to the average reader. An absolute scoring beast who led his team twice to the NBA Finals, plus one more serving as a sidekick to Hakeem Olajuwon in the latter stages of his career.
