Cleveland Cavaliers: Ranking the last 10 first-round picks
8. Dylan Windler
Check back on this list in the future and Windler is almost guaranteed to rise to a higher spot. So far, however, he’s played exactly zero minutes in the NBA, so it’s hard to offer him tremendous praise.
Windler came in the most recent draft, the 26th overall pick of the Cavs. He wound up playing two games for the Charge, averaging 6.5 points and 4.0 rebounds per game.
The left tibial stress reaction Windler suffered during training camp came back to rear its ugly head after those games, forcing him to undergo season-ending surgery in January. Technically, Windler will be a rookie once again next season.
What Windler is destined to become remains a mystery. During his final seasons at Belmont, he became a 3-point weapon, making 42.6 percent of his attempts as a junior and 42.9 percent of his attempts as a senior.
As a four-year collegian, Windler is already behind the NBA’s youth curve. He’ll be 24 years old by the start of the next season and just starting out as a rookie with a knee injury. Windler will have to push through that adversity to validate his first-round selection.
