Detroit Pistons: A comprehensive guide to the Pistons’ free agency targets
By Corey Rausch
Low-risk low-reward big men
The next two sections are pretty similar in that they are betting on potential. This section focuses on those that likely peak at the level of role players but are worth taking a chance on nonetheless. I will get my biased pick out of the way first as he is also the oldest of the group. DeMarcus Cousins will be 30 when the next season starts and will be looking at rebuilding his value.
He has also been one of my favorite players and would love to see him get that chance in Detroit. It may be somewhat counter-intuitive should Christian Wood return (more on that later) but there are somethings I cannot help but want.
More realistically Skal Labissiere has regressed substantially since average 8.8 points and 8.7 points in his first two season in Sacramento. In the Wood mold, Labissiere could provide a spark off the bench in the role Thon Maker filled this past season. The same goes for Noah Vonleh or Jahlil Okafor should the Pistons want to give these former lottery picks another opportunity.
Jakob Poeltl and Nerlens Noel round out the list of big men in this category that could provide reserve duties for a growing team. They may be more defined or entrenched in their current situations which could limit the Pistons chances but there is still room to grow for both of these players.
Poeltl plays a more traditional center role and would be complimented well by floor spacing. Noel is intriguing in a pick and roll offense should the right players be on the roster for it.
