1. Serge Ibaka

In the final year of a three-year, $65 million contract extension he signed back in 2017, Serge Ibaka will enter this offseason as a coveted free agent. Expect the Nets to be one of a handful of teams interested in signing Ibaka away from Toronto.

Before the suspension of the season, Ibaka was having his best season as a professional. In 50 games he was averaging a career-best 16.0 points per game, 8.3 rebounds, and shooting nearly 40 percent from beyond the arc.

On paper, Ibaka would be a perfect fit with the Nets. He would get the opportunity to reunite with former Thunder teammate Kevin Durant, fill the starting power forward void, and add to a solid defensive front-court led by DeAndre Jordan and Jarrett Allen.

By signing with Brooklyn, Ibaka would be in the conversation to be the team’s third-best player. Assuming the team holds onto both Spencer Dinwiddie and Caris LeVert. His ability to play both sides of the ball effectively makes him an attractive third piece. That said, his defensive presence would improve the team’s overall defense which was ranked 15th in the NBA.

A lineup with Durant, Irving, Ibaka, Jordan, and a combination of Harris, Dinwiddie, or LeVert is scary and should excite Nets fans for next season.

During this past summer, both Durant and Ibaka had the opportunity to chat off the court on Ibaka’s cooking show “How Hungry Are You?”

One of the few topics of discussion was the recent recap of the 2019 NBA finals. Durant a member of the Golden State Warriors who lost in six games to Ibaka and the Raptors. Both expressed their satisfaction of being NBA champions and brought up the possibility of teaming up together to compete for another championship.

The two have maintained a solid relationship dating back to their days in Oklahoma City. With a decision looming this offseason for Ibaka could a relationship between the two players benefit the Nets over the Raptors?
