2012 NBA Redraft: How wrong we were in real time

#14 Pick: Kent Bazemore (Originally: John Henson)
It is very tough to argue with anything the Bucks did here given that the following season they selected Giannis Antetokounmpo and John Henson has been a solid NBA player. That being said I decided to go with a young player I would have liked to see grow alongside Antetokounmpo so I went with Kent Bazemore.
Throwing out his first season and a half in Golden State and you can see that Kent Bazemore would have thrived getting a chance earlier and being able to take his lumps on a team with little expectations. During this 23-game stretch with the Lakers in his second season, he posted an average of 13.1 points per game and shot 37.1 percent from distance.
He would stall in his first year in Atlanta when his minutes dipped but he became a four-year starter there and his scoring increased while his efficiency stayed relatively the same. Watching him grow alongside Antetokounmpo could have helped him a lot, as you watch other players get better around him consistently. Learning under Jason Kidd could have accelerated his development as well.
Unrelated to anything relevant but Bazemore also may have brought the Under Armor connection to Antetokounmpo instead of Stephen Curry in this universe. Seeing Giannis as the cover athlete for the brand is a fascinating “what if”, at the very least.
