2: Deandre Ayton (2018)

The Suns gained a stud in Deandre Ayton, who has quickly become one of the most dynamic bigs in the NBA today.

Ayton was drafted with the No. 1 overall pick in 2018. After a ridiculously dominant freshman season with Arizona, Ayton proved himself to be the best prospect in the draft, though that has been challenged by Luka Doncic and Trae Young. Ayton was a star in a sky full of shining stars, and around him were energetic scorers who showed ridiculous potential.

Ayton was a part of one of the most hyped draft classes in years, and he was the first pick in that draft. Though he wouldn’t be as good as his fellow rookies, Ayton has easily lived up to his hype and has become one of the best dominant bigs in today’s game.

So far in his first two seasons, Ayton has averaged 17.1 points and 10.8 rebounds per game. He has quickly solidified himself as a dynamic big man, drawing comparisons to the great David Robinson. Ayton has developed into a great shot-blocker already in his two seasons and his partnership with teammate Devin Booker is drawing tons of comparisons to the classic duo of Shaquille O’Neal and Kobe Bryant.

While fans underrate the selection of Ayton since Doncic and Trae Young have dominated already, the selection of Ayton was logical and understandable and there’s no reason to redraft Ayton’s spot.
