Re-drafting 2015-2019 second round draft picks for the Denver Nuggets
2018 NBA Draft
In the 2018 NBA Draft, the Denver Nuggets selected Justin Jackson with the 43rd overall pick and Thomas Welsh with the 58th overall pick. The trade rights to Jackson, who has only played in the G League to this point, were subsequently traded to the Orlando Magic, while Thomas Welsh was signed to a two-way contract by Denver but most recently was a G League player for a different franchise.
The best picks to replace those two include Kendrick Nunn, Duncan Robinson and Allonzo Trier. Despite the potential Trier has shown, I would probably choose Nunn and Robinson based on their performances in this current season.
Nunn averaged 15.6 points per game in his first full NBA season, displaying solid athleticism and 3-point shooting as well. Robinson, on the other hand, has been nothing short of spectacular this season, averaging 13.3 points per game and shooting 44.8 percent from 3. These two players have been integral for the Miami Heat this season and would fit well into the Nuggets system.
2019 NBA Draft
In the 2019 NBA Draft, the Denver Nuggets didn’t have any draft picks, hence they nailed the draft.
In conclusion, it isn’t fair to criticize the Nuggets for any of their second-round picks, especially since they typically don’t last long in an organization and in some cases don’t even sign. All of these cases would have required the Nuggets to essentially hit the jackpot for the respective draft position, and many of the players examined were undrafted anomalies. If the Nuggets had the ability to identify each of these players prior to the draft they would no doubt be perennial title favorites.
