NBA: Grading every team’s trade deadline moves, one month later
Inactive teams
Indiana Pacers: A
The Indiana Pacers and Victor Oladipo haven’t been the same as they were last year. But making a deal at the deadline to disrupt what was already going to be a rough fit to begin with. And now that he’s starting to catch his stride, it makes even more sense that Pacers remained quiet.
Los Angeles Lakers: C
It’s one of the few times in recent years that the Los Angeles Lakers, or the team that’s home to LeBron James, didn’t make a move at the deadline. And a month later, while they are playing well, it’s looking like they should have. Reports surfaced that the Lakers went after Derrick Rose, but the Detroit Pistons weren’t interested in a deal. Instead, Los Angeles will settle with Markieff Morris and Dion Waiters, who they signed off the buyout market.
Milwaukee Bucks: A
The Milwaukee Bucks also stood pat at the deadline, and literally not one soul could blame them. They’re on pace for 70-plus wins this season and have what is likely the best-organized roster top to bottom all across the NBA. They also added Marvin Williams in the buyout market, and he’s been as impressive as they could have hoped. Flying colors for Milwaukee.
New Orleans Pelicans: B
To the surprise of none, the New Orleans Pelicans decided to keep Zion Williamson‘s supporting cast the same through the deadline. After the former number one overall pick’s arrival was delayed with a hamstring injury, this season has been nothing but a trial run for New Orleans. And even with no additions (or subtractions), the Pelicans are still in the Western playoff race as the NBA entered its coronavirus-induced hiatus.
