Minnesota’s Perspective

Flashback to 2014. A Kevin Love-led Minnesota team is struggling to come anywhere near a playoff spot despite having a top-10 player in their squad. Fast forward to 2020, where history is once again repeating itself.

It should be noted that blockbuster trades like these rarely happen. Rebuilding teams are almost certain to grasp to these generational talents tightly and refuse to let go. Oh, wait. Scratch that off. Good ol’ untrustworthy Wikipedia says that Kevin Love got traded for Anthony Bennett and Andrew Wiggins (and ESPN confirms it).

At the current state of affairs, Towns and the Minnesota Timberwolves are a complete trainwreck. The T-Wolves are on a 12 game losing streak and find themselves 14th in the Western Conference.

Meanwhile, Karl-Anthony Towns has not managed to deliver a win to his team since November, 27! Maybe that second plate at Thanksgiving dinner might not have been such a good idea after all.

After being part of a major 4-team trade, the Timberwolves do not want to slow down, making it clear that they will be very active in the next few hours. This could be a positive thing for the franchise, though trading away Robert Covington (who was Karl’s best friend) might have made things much worse.

Letting go of a player whose ability even approaches Towns’ will never be an easy thing to do. Fortunately for them, his trade value might be at an all-time high, meaning that the team up north will receive a pretty hefty compensation.
