Phoenix Suns: Buy

The Phoenix Suns were fun for a while, no doubt. For the first few weeks they had the league’s best net rating and looked like more than just a bright future.

That time has ended. Rarely do teams go from rags to riches in one season without a significant influx of talent; Ricky Rubio was never going to take the Suns from 19 wins to 40.

Providing Devin Booker with a real environment is no small feat, though. Having an actual point guard has done wonders for the scoring maestro, who is now averaging 27.1 points a game on 63.4 percent true shooting.

In NBA history, the threshold of 27 points per game on 63 percent TS has only been eclipsed by Kevin Durant, Stephen Curry, Charles Barkley, Adrian Dantley, LeBron James and Giannis Antentokoumnpo.

Kelly Oubre has been a great addition and Deandre Ayton’s return has made things easier, but overall this team is fine. They’re just fine. Making the playoffs for the first time in a decade would be great, as not only would the fans’ hope be realized, but the franchise could hang its hat on building a winner.

The Suns’ hierarchy is fine as constructed and it’s functionally difficult to make major upgrades after what went down across the league this past summer. If the right deal comes along to make them better in the short and long term, then by all means they should take it. But those are few and far between.
