3. Toronto Raptors

Last year’s champions, the Toronto Raptors, are struggling, by comparison, this year. They are third in the Eastern Conference, which is surprising given the injuries they have to key players this season. They do have Marc Gasol and Serge Ibaka, who play the center position.

Gasol has missed 11 games but he is struggling this season with scoring. His 6.9 points per game is the lowest of his career. If Andre Drummond were to come to the Raptors in place of Gasol he would take this team to another level. According to Vincent Goodwill of Yahoo! Sports, the Raptors have expressed interest in Drummond.

With the exception of Drummond, every player can shoot the 3-ball in the starting lineup. They are third in the NBA, shooting 37.1 percent from deep. Drummond is also an excellent defender, which fits in very well with this team’s defense-first mantra.

Drummond would take this team from a playoff contender to a championship probability. Executive Masai Ujiri has shown that he is willing to make bold moves in order to give his club the best possible chance to win a championship.

He traded for Kawhi Leonard on a one-year rental before 2018-19, ultimately winning the Raptors a championship. The question is, would he be willing to risk it again? Would he be willing to send a future piece of the franchise off for another championship to potentially see the star walk again?

Drummond in the middle of this Raptor pack would almost be a throwback to the time when big men ruled the paint. This has not worked since the Warriors changed the game. In this year’s iteration of the NBA, you never know what may happen.
