Re-signing Mike Scott
The Mike Scott “Hive” isn’t going anywhere in Philadelphia, and it should continue to spread throughout next season.
The Sixers signed the 31-year-old vet to a 2-year, $9.8 million contract using their room exception. After the end-of-season press conference in May, it was only right.
A fan favorite, bar none, Scott has embraced his role as an undersized power forward in the Sixers’ nightly rotation. Since being acquired from the Los Angeles Clippers last February, he has brought some memorable performances and moments that have made the audience salivate.
But Scott could very well be the first man off the bench come October, which may require him to be more of a contributor than he was in 2018-19. That’s not to say he wasn’t taking the requisite shots, or providing quality minutes when he was out there. He was. The team received a 41.2 percentage on 119 attempts from 3-point range, and his versatility allowed him to be solid on the defensive end. Still, more will be asked of the sixth man on a roster such as this.
It’s possible the organization will still kick around the thought of pursuing an additional shooter or shooters as next year moves along. For now, the no-nonsense competitor that is Scott should suffice.
