Re-signing Tobias Harris

The answer to questions about Tobias Harris’ iffy future with the Sixers might’ve been right there in front of us during the preceding days of free agency. But nobody was ready to believe it. Not when the Sixers invited Harris’ brothers for a pre-draft workout. Not when his younger brother Terry appeared on the Summer League roster. And certainly not on the evening of June 30, when J.J. Redick almost instantly announced he’d be joining the New Orleans Pelicans.

It wasn’t until he finally put pen to paper on July 10 — making it official that he’d be back in the red, white and blue — when Philly could take a breather.

Harris arrived to the Sixers at the trade deadline in February, which limited him to a mere 27 games with the team. What’s easily forgotten in the aftermath of such a frantic season, is that the 27-year-old put up the best scoring numbers of his career in 2018-19 with 20.0 points per game on .487/.397/.866 shooting splits.

So despite the hem-hawing over his five-year, $180 million payday, (the richest contract in franchise history), Harris plans to show he’s worth every dime.
