Other moves, overall grade

Re-signing Rodney McGruder for three years and $15 million provides some decent backup minutes and some additional security should injuries occur.

The LA Clippers non-Paul George trade departures, Garrett Temple (signed with the Brooklyn Nets) and Wilson Chandler (also with the Nets), were minor and barely worth discussing given the wider focus. Tyrone Wallace and Sindarius Thornwell were both waived in equally low-key moves.

The draft brought Florida State forward Mfiondu Kabengele to LA (via Brooklyn) with the 27th pick, as well as shooting guard Terance Mann.

Kabengele’s slip out of the top-20 was unexpected and he has intriguing potential as a stretch 5 down the road should he continue to evolve as a shooter. Mann has NBA wing size (6-foot-6) with the potential to be a solid rotation piece.

Overall, even the most ardent pessimist would struggle to find fault in the Clippers’ summer moves. The NBA is run by stars. The Clippers added two top-10 talents, including perhaps the best player in the world in Kawhi Leonard. They did so while retaining depth, a startling achievement.

Next. Each NBA team's greatest coach ever. dark

Just two seasons removed from the demise of Lob City, the Clippers enter 2018-19 as the title favorites.
