Washington Wizards: Ranking 2019 NBA Summer League players
By Ben Yokoyama
2. Rui Hachimura
Rui Hachimura had two solid games and one great game this summer. His great game was a 25-point, nine rebound outing against the Atlanta Hawks, where he scored inside in transition and in the pick-and-roll, from the midrange and even made two 3-pointers.
The Gonzaga product has a big body and though he stands just 6’8”, his large frame boxed out larger players with ease as he grabbed 7.0 rebounds to go along with his 19.0 points per game.
The Wizards plan on using him as a small forward on the perimeter more often, though he played almost exclusively in the paint in college.
When he had the ball on the outside, he seemed hesitant at times to make a dribble move himself or to shoot the 3. It was a promising performance for the first-rounder, who should be able to step into a key role off the bench for the Washington Wizards right from the start of the season.
1. Troy Brown Jr.
Troy Brown Jr. was the best player on the floor whenever he stepped on it. Other than his seven minutes against the LA Clippers, it seemed like he was a step quicker than everyone else on the floor.
The 15th overall pick in last year’s draft showed aggressiveness with the ball in his hands and surprisingly great rebounding with 17.0 points and 12.0 rebounds in his first two games.
The former Oregon Duck established himself as the floor general, handling the ball well and more often. Though he is just 19 years old, his demeanor was that of a veteran, he was talking in the huddle and coaching his teammates on the fly.
Even though he only really played in two games, the intangible leadership bonus to his excellent on-court play solidified the top spot for a guy who will see a lot more playing time this season for the the Washington Wizards.
