Washington Wizards: Ranking 2019 NBA Summer League players
By Ben Yokoyama
11. Issuf Sanon
This summer, Issuf Sanon proved a lot of scouting reports right: he is a wonder to watch defensively but there is much to improve upon offensively for the young, athletic Ukrainian. He moved so well on the floor and locked up anyone he guarded this summer.
He and head coach Robert Pack seemed to agree on his strengths and weaknesses, because he took just 11 shots in four games and rarely had the ball in his hands. The 19-year-old will likely spend a few more years in Slovenia and may come back for Summer League next season.
It was hard to see any offensive upside from him, but his defense is NBA-ready.
10. Isaac Bonga
Isaac Bonga played in the last three games this summer, averaging 8.3 points and 4.3 rebounds in 20.2 minutes per game. From inside the arc, the German was on fire, shooting 56 percent on 2-point shots. He showed a high motor, getting up and down the court with ease.
Though he scored a good amount, Bonga did not show ball handling or shooting mastery. Most of his baskets were layups from good passes. After playing for the Los Angeles Lakers’ G League affiliate, he seemed to be rushing everything on the court.
However, he certainly has a future in the NBA.
9. Anzejs Pasecniks
This 7’1” Latvian had a decent showing in his first NBA Summer League, but his skills didn’t stand out. The former first round pick averaged more fouls (4.3) than points (4.0) in the four games he played. He showed surprising speed and great effort on both ends of the floor.
Anzejs Pasecniks’ game is unpolished. He lacks any sort of shooting touch and the game seems to be moving too fast for him at times.
His size helped him collect 5.3 rebounds in 12.5 minutes per game, but he never found his role in the offense, nor did he have great movement on the defensive end, despite starting two games this summer.
