Minnesota Timberwolves: Scouting Jordan Murphy
By Ethan Becker
The Bad
Murphy is a very rough talent. He has a lot of potential but at the moment, seems to lack either the skill or confidence to perform at a consistent level. In Summer League, he’s only averaged 6.8 points, 3.3 rebounds, 0.5 assists, 0.3 steals and 0.3 blocks in 12.0 minutes per game over Minnesota’s four contests.
Another area for concern in his game is his consistency at the free throw line. A player who is skilled at getting to the line, Murphy has only managed to make 52.6 percent of his free throws in Summer League, going 10-for-19.
He’s also a throwback to an earlier era big man. He can’t shoot from deep, shooting just 25.0 percent from 3, and he needs the ball to really do any damage on offense.
His ball-handling skills aren’t top notch either. While he’s good at the dribble-drive, and doesn’t need the ball passed to him on the low post to make his shot, Murphy has a tendency to be careless with his dribbling. In the past, he’s picked up traveling violations in the open court. This all adds up to Murphy’s 1.5 turnovers a game.
