1. Los Angeles Lakers

Were you expecting any team other than the Los Angeles Lakers? Coming off a 35-win season filled with injuries and turmoil, the Lakers have retooled around LeBron James by pairing him with superstar Anthony Davis. The 2019-20 roster features a lot of new faces, mixed in with some returning veterans:

It has been revealed recently that the Lakers plan on starting James at point guard, opening up the possibilities for the starting lineup completely. Who will be the team’s starting shooting guard? What will the defensive assignments be for the opening five? Who will close out games? All of these questions arise as a result of the decision.

Anthony and James have been friends for years. The two have grown up together, from battling it out for the league’s Rookie of the Year award in 2003-04 to taking exotic vacations together to pretty much everything in between. It’s long been known that the idea of playing with Anthony has been something that James is intrigued by.

In win-now mode, Los Angeles would benefit from having another floor-spacer and spot-up shooter coming off the bench. Anthony would benefit from playing on the same team as one of his best friends. It’s a win-win situation and a low-risk, decent-reward situation for a veteran’s minimum cap hit.

Regardless of where Anthony signs, seeing him get one more shot to prove himself would be neat for just about every basketball fan. Watching him win his first championship would be even better. Does Melo have one more run in him? Only time will tell.
