Detroit Pistons: 5 options for pick No. 45 in the 2019 NBA Draft
By Amaar Burton
2. Admiral Schofield
A decorated senior with All-American and All-SEC credentials who led one of the best teams in college basketball to the Sweet 16, Admiral Schofield is ready to play pro basketball right now.
So of course, he projects as a second-round NBA Draft pick.
Maybe he’s a victim of that old “tweener” label that was supposed to be obsolete in this era of increasingly position-less basketball. Listed at 6’6″ and 240 pounds, Schofield is a little too short for the new prototypical small forward or power forward, and a little too bulky for the prototypical shooting guard.
Schofield has an NBA-ready body, however, in terms of strength and conditioning. He is constantly praised for his leadership and work ethic. It’s no coincidence that every good NBA team has at least one guy who fits Schofield’s profile, and yet guys like him are routinely drafted lower than they deserve.
Schofield averaged 16.5 points and 6.1 rebounds per game for the Volunteers this season, and shot 41.8 percent from 3-point range — improving that number in each of his four years in college.
The Pistons need a wing who can step in and make an immediate impact, and Schofield has the build, the skill and the basketball IQ to fill that job opening.
