Orlando Magic: 3 takeaways from Game 2 massacre vs. Raptors
1. Defense fails to come through
In Game 2, Orlando’s defensive intensity was nowhere to be found. The Raptors shot 48.3 percent overall and had 25 assists to just seven turnovers in the ball game. Kawhi Leonard seemed unbothered by whatever defense was put in front of him, hitting 15 of his game-high 22 shot attempts.
Through all their inefficiencies offensively, the Magic managed to hang their hat on the defensive end of the floor all season. They possessed the 11th-most efficient defense. Length at nearly every position helped them record the sixth-most blocks per game as well.
With an offense that comes and goes as it pleases, Orlando’s suffocating defense has had to show up in order to give this team a chance at competing. It’s been the route they’ve taken all year, and it’s worked out pretty well up to this point with their first postseason appearance in seven years.
However, the Magic’s defense can’t afford this type of effort again, one where Toronto got seemingly got everything it wanted with little resistance. They lack the offensive firepower to keep themselves afloat, which should only motivate them even more in the games to come to make sure their execution on the other end is as close to flawless as possible.
