Milwaukee Bucks: 3 takeaways from Game 1 vs. Pistons
By Ryan Piers
1. The Pistons are no match for the Bucks
The Golden State Warriors are the biggest favorites in the NBA’s first round since 1988. That distinction should belong to the Milwaukee Bucks.
Detroit and Milwaukee are so incredibly mismatched. The Bucks are a contemporary NBA team with four players who can shoot surrounding this most dynamic penetrator in the NBA. The Pistons are old school, featuring big men who can’t shoot and an undersized backcourt.
The Bucks dominated at home, with a 33-8 record at the Fiserv Forum. The Pistons were horrible on the road with a 15-26 record away from Detroit. Milwaukee won all four games against Detroit this season, all of which Griffin played in.
Speaking of Griffin, it would’ve been incredibly entertaining to watch him compete against Giannis. The two are maybe the most athletic forwards of their time playing the best basketball of their careers. Griffin would help make these games a little closer and 100 times more entertaining, but unfortunately, he’ll likely be out for the entire series.
At the end of the day, Milwaukee is just too good and two nuanced for their counterparts. We knew this coming in, but it was confirmed in Game 1.
A near 40-point blowout in the playoff’s first game doesn’t make the Bucks automatic favorites to win the NBA title, but it certainly means they should breeze through this series.
