Memphis Grizzlies: 3 trade possibilities for Mike Conley
1. Dallas Mavericks*
*The 2019 second round pick is the more favorable between the Golden State Warriors and Houston Rockets picks.
Even though the Dallas Mavericks have apparently patched up things with Dennis Smith Jr. via a phone apology from head coach Rick Carlisle, he still could be on the trading block. DSJ would give the Grizzlies a young point guard who has shown flashes throughout his first two seasons.
While the Mavericks may be hesitant to give up on their young core of Luka Doncic and DSJ, they have been unable to lure top-tier talent to Dallas for quite some time. (No, DeAndre Jordan doesn’t count). Pairing a veteran like Conley with Doncic would be great for the team, as both have shown the ability to play on and off ball.
The Grizzlies would get cap relief, with Wesley Matthews $18.6 million coming off the books after this season. Dwight Powell is an energetic power forward/center who could play backup minutes for Jaren Jackson Jr. or Marc Gasol, or could even move into the starting spot if the Grizzlies move on from Gasol.
Powell does have a player option for next season, but it’s unknown if he would exercise it at this current time.
Ryan Broekhoff was a throw-in for the numbers to match up. He has appeared in only 18 games so far this season, but is a wing player who could be given a shot because, why not? Broekhoff also sports a solid mustache, so take that for what you may.
