Detroit Pistons: 3 Reggie Jackson trade proposals
1. Orlando Magic
At the end of the day, the most important thing is to get Jackson’s contract off the books to open up cap space. In the final trade scenario, the Pistons have to take on some money for next season to get that done.
The Orlando Magic have no clear presence at the point guard position, so Jackson gives them an instant upgrade for at least the next season and a half. All they have to do is give up swingman Terrence Ross for the rest of the year, and journeyman point guard D.J. Augustin.
To negate the loss of Ross, the Pistons are sending back a swingman of their own in Reggie Bullock. Bullock gives the Magic a cheaper option on the wing that can still space the floor effectively. While the Pistons would probably like to get more for Bullock, who is on a cheap deal at a position of great desire, cap flexibility is their top priority for the future.
The team would prefer to get nothing but expiring money for the future, but with only Bruce Brown Jr. under contract next season if this deal is completed, the team could do much worse than having Augustin as their secondary floor general. This is an interesting deal for both sides, and it helps both achieve some of their goals.
