George Hill

2018-19 stat line: 26.5 MPG, 12.6 PPG, 3.0 APG, 1.9 RPG, 1.0 SPG, .556/.480/.875 shooting splits

Pros:

  • At least the Suns would have a point guard
  • Reliable 3-point shooter and decision-maker

Cons:

  • Hill’s effort and quality of play was less than stellar on recent rebuilding teams
  • He’s 32 years old
  • He’s got another (non-guaranteed) year left on his contract after 2018-19
  • Not much of a distributor or lockdown defender anymore

Breakdown:

In a group that includes Tyrone Wallace and Shabazz Napier, George Hill still might be the least sexy option. He’s 32, he’s currently banged up and he’s got another year on his contract. It’s non-guaranteed, which could make him a safety fallback if the Suns are unable to find a better solution in the draft or free agency, but there’s a bigger problem.

The main issue here is how much George Hill’s effort, attitude and all-around play completely fell off a cliff on the last two rebuilding teams he was a part of. He was atrocious with the Sacramento Kings, and though he cared while the Cleveland Cavaliers had LeBron James, with the King gone, it’s pretty much back to running through the motions.

That description should set off alarm bells in Phoenix, which is all too familiar with older vets dialing it in rather than leading the youngsters by example. Hill is a starting-level point guard in this league, and his reliable 3-point shooting would help, but this is probably the least enticing option on the entire list.
