Milos Teodosic

2018-19 stat line: 9.9 MPG, 3.2 PPG, 2.1 APG, 1.6 RPG, .556/.462/.750 shooting splits

Pros:

  • Fully expendable for the Clippers
  • Visionary passing and playmaking
  • Consistent 3-point shooter

Cons:

  • Merely a stopgap option
  • Impending restricted free agency complicates matters as a short-term fix
  • Not a great defender
  • Age (31) doesn’t make him an ideal fit

Breakdown:

Milos Teodosic is the best Los Angeles Clippers guard who’s likely to be available, and there’s no question he’d be a massive upgrade in the playmaking department. As one of the flashiest and most visionary passers in the NBA, he’d accomplish the goal of finding a 1-guard to make Devin Booker’s life simpler.

However, even with Teodosic seeing the court in just nine games so far and clearly being expendable, there are definite downsides here. Dragan Bender doesn’t have a future in Phoenix, but giving up a former No. 4 overall pick — even as a sunk cost — would have to sting, especially since Teodosic might amount to a one-year rental before he becomes a restricted free agent.

Teodosic isn’t the kind of defense-first point guard the Suns need alongside Book for the long haul, but he’d be an effective stopgap on the offensive end, allowing Phoenix’s best player to focus more on scoring with a facilitator who could make that job much easier.
