1. It’s just the beginning

The Pistons last season traded for Griffin last season in a move that was expected to expedite their rebuild. While Griffin has helped this team, he hasn’t turned them into an elite Eastern Conference powerhouse. The Pistons don’t possess a wealth of draft capital right now, and it’s going to take them a little while to build their roster back into a title contender. It took Casey and the Raptors five seasons before they ever made it to the conference finals.

The Pistons currently have a lot of older players on the roster, and they will be working to retool this roster to fit better in the modern NBA. Players will be on the way out as Casey and the Pistons are building that contender. This year is when everything is starting, and we get to see the players that are going to be the future leaders of this team. Players like Brown and Khyri Thomas are projected to be big role players in the future.

Before the Golden State Warriors took hold on the throat of the NBA, they had several years of struggle where they had to get all the right pieces in the right place. This is where Detroit finds itself now. In both instances of the Pistons’ title runs, they took many years of failure to get their team to the level it needed. They are in the middle of that run, and we’re along for the ride. Let us give thanks for the opportunity to see this rebuild happen.
