Overall

The Milwaukee Bucks did their best to reshuffle the deck this offseason, forming a different sort of frontcourt and adding depth in the backcourt. They also made more marginal moves in adding Trevon Duval, Christian Wood and Jordan Barnett to non-guaranteed deals.

Their offseason cannot be properly evaluated without mentioning Jabari Parker. Frequent injuries plagued his four seasons with the team, and with Giannis Antetokounmpo playing the same position, the team would have been hard-pressed to make him a featured player. Yet he is still an extremely talented player, and this squad’s ceiling lowered slightly when he left for Chicago.

It’s also important to factor in the signing of Mike Budenholzer, the top head coaching candidate on the market. Budenholzer strung together consistent playoff teams in Atlanta despite never having a top-10 player, and figures to be a major upgrade over Jason Kidd and Joe Prunty.

By tweaking the roster to make more sense in the modern NBA, the Bucks should exit the offseason feeling better about where they are. No one move was a slam dunk, and just the roster changes would net around a “B” grade. Add in the Budenholzer hire and it shifts up a hair.
