2. Houston believes in its superstar backcourt

At the beginning of the 2018 offseason, Rockets fans might have gotten their hopes up that they could pull off a sign-and-trade to acquire Cleveland Cavaliers star LeBron James. However, when James announced that he was opting out of his deal in Cleveland, it became practically impossible for them to pick up the best player in the game.

With this news, the Rockets turned their attention to bringing back free agent point guard Chris Paul. The superstar point guard was instrumental in the team’s record-breaking season and a big reason why his backcourt partner James Harden finally received the MVP award that has eluded him in year’s past.

By signing Paul to a maximum salary deal and locking him up for the next four years, the Rockets showed that they believe that these two players are enough to keep the team competing for championships. Having these two players in place until 2022 ensures that they have an excellent pitch to future free agents in hopes that they can build a super-team to knock off the Warriors.
