2. Philadelphia 76ers

Don’t forget, Kevin Durant will only turn 30 in September. His time for contending for titles is right now, but he could also be part of a younger team on the rise if that appealed to him. One of the few teams that could afford to sign him outright, the Philadelphia 76ers, would be a delightful fit.

For starters, Durant’s skill-set would be perfect for the Sixers. Ben Simmons is a wizard with the ball, but he can’t really shoot. Just imagine how Durant’s 3-point shooting and shot-making creation would make life so much easier for Simmons and open up driving lanes, or how the Rookie of the Year’s passing and playmaking would be unfair when he’d have KD to kick out to.

The Sixers need shooters with J.J. Redick, Marco Belinelli and Ersan Ilyasova hitting free agency (not to mention Robert Covington‘s disappearing act), but Durant is also a formidable and versatile defender who would only help Philly’s third-ranked defense from last year.

Put KD, Simmons, Joel Embiid and Dario Saric together and suddenly their might be a new favorite in the East, especially if the Celtics shy away from trying to acquire LeBron or Kawhi. The Sixers heading toward contender status; adding Durant to the mix would only accelerate the Process of competing for titles.

The Sixers are looking for that final piece to put them over the top, but LeBron is older and is not as ideal a fit as Durant. Kawhi would require giving up players and assets in a trade, and PG-13 probably is the least realistic option of the bunch. In this fantasy land where KD considers bolstering an Eastern power to take down the Western juggernaut he himself assembled, the Sixers might be the most fitting — and entertaining — option possible.
