2. Versatile scorer

One of the attributes that most teams are searching at the guard spot is versatility. Not only does Shamet possess the ability to be a scoring threat from long range, there are other aspects about his game worth noting as well.

For example, after starting his collegiate career as an off guard, Shamet moved over to the point guard spot last season. Also, even though he assumed more of the ball-handling responsibilities last year, Shamet doesn’t need the ball in his hands to impact the game and he is a capable screener as well.

He has a good command of the team’s offense and does not allow opposing defenders to dictate the pace in which he plays the game at. Need a guy who can handle the rock in pick-and-roll situations? Well, Shamet is your guy, as he ranked in the 79th percentile in this category.

As far as playing off the ball goes, Shamet scored 1.52 points per possession on 110 catch-and-shoot situations, which was the third-best mark in college basketball. Another stat worth mentioning is Shamet generated nearly twice as many points when passing out of pick-and-roll sets than he did when he used those sets for himself.

Simply put, Shamet is a combo guard who can do a bit of everything, making him a good fit for any NBA team.
