Philadelphia 76ers: 5 reasons Landry Shamet was a good pick
3. Floor-spacing potential
To say that 3-point shooting has become an integral part of today’s NBA would be a gross understatement. For example, the Houston Rockets set a league record in each of the last two seasons, finishing with 1,181 and 1,184 made 3-pointers.
To further demonstrate my point, I will also mention that the Golden State Warriors have led the league in 3-point shooting in three of the past four seasons, a factor that has contributed to them capturing three titles during that span.
With that in mind, teams are always on the lookout for players who knock down the long ball and Shamet certainly fits into that category.
In each of the past two seasons he shot better than 40 percent from beyond the arc and during his two-plus seasons at Wichita State, he converted 43.7 percent of his attempts from long range.
Should the Sixers attempt to add a bit of star power to an already talented roster during the offseason, it wouldn’t be an easy task to replace a sharpshooter like J.J. Redick by any means.
On the other hand, it is a role that Shamet is capable of sliding into down the road.
