Houston Rockets: Top 10 moments from 2017-18 NBA season
7. Clint Capela’s 20-20 night against the Nuggets
Although the Rockets’ fantastic season came to a devastating close at the hands of Golden State, Clint Capela still managed to provide fans across the Space City with an abundance of magnificent performances in his fourth season, throwing down a series of jams on the way towards putting up some impressive highlights and numbers.
After posting just 25 double-doubles through his first three NBA seasons, Capela managed to return and produce a total of 42 double-doubles in the 2017-18 campaign, including one that managed to place him in a category all by himself.
On Feb. 9 against the Denver Nuggets, Capela imposed his will against fellow center Nikola Jokic, scoring 23 points. He also hauled in a career-high 25 rebounds in the Rockets’ 130-104 win at home to become the first NBA player ever to record at least 20 points and 25 rebounds in less than 29 minutes.
"“You wouldn’t know that this is only his fourth or fifth year in the league,” Chris Paul told reporters when asked about Capela’s progression earlier this year. “I think he’s just going to continue to grow, and it’s been fun because he’s not only a great player, but a great person.” “It’s a reason why we win all the time when he plays.”"
In spite of missing a few layups in the early going, Capela — who had only reached the 20-rebound milestone just once prior to the contest — became the youngest Rocket since Hakeem Olajuwon to finish with at least 23 points and 25 rebounds in a game, as he made up for his early mishaps by doing more than his part to help Houston secure a bout in which they led wire-to-wire.
