Houston Rockets: Top 10 moments from 2017-18 NBA season
8. The 90-point first half in Phoenix
In a game in which Mike D’Antoni made his return back to his old stomping grounds, Chris Paul and the Rockets would provide him with one of their finest offensive displays of the season, as they did not waste any time seeking to light up the scoreboard.
They put the game out of reach long before the head coach could seek to grab his clipboard.
During the opening half of a nationally-televised showdown against the Phoenix Suns, Houston shot an astounding 62.2 percent from the field. They scorched the nets from beyond the arc, shooting a red-hot 12-for-20 from 3-point range on the way towards putting together a first half that would leave many fans checking their eyesight.
James Harden scored 33 of his game-high 48 points prior to halftime, alongside of Paul’s double-double, to lead the Rockets to a 142-116 victory against Phoenix on Nov. 16.
"“I thought there was something wrong with the score,” Harden told members of the media."
Despite falling 17 points shy of the record for most points in the first half, Houston put together arguably its best brand of basketball through the first 24 minutes of play, committing only six turnovers. They made the most of every possession, as Harden and Paul helped the Rockets go on a 13-1 run late in the first quarter and made several Suns defenders look silly on the night.
This game showed the rest of the world exactly why they were indeed must-see television throughout the early part of the year.
