2. Gary Trent Jr.

  • Height: 6’6”
  • Weight: 204 lbs
  • Position: SG
  • Age: 19

Gary Trent Jr. only played one season at Duke University, but that was all he needed to show that he was an excellent shooter. Trent is a bigger guard who can shoot from anywhere on the court and has a nice jump shot. He is the son of former NBA player, and he plays like it he is on the court.

Trent is a smart player who knows his role and doesn’t do too much. ESPN has Trent ranked as the 39th best prospect in the class.

In his one season at Duke, Trent shot 40.2 percent from the 3-point line (6.5 attempts per game) and 87.6 percent from the free throw line per game. He is a guy who will see minutes in the NBA right away because of his ability to space the floor.

For the Blazers, Trent could play both shooting guard and small forward. He could play with both Lillard and McCollum to allow them space to work. Trent is a knockdown shooter and precisely what the Blazers are looking for. Trent will be a better player than he was in college and will benefit with the bigger NBA court.

He could help the Blazers right away and replace Connaughton, Jake Layman and/or Napier. Portland has had Trent in for a workout already, and he may be a guy they are looking at pick No. 24. He is still young and has room to grow, but he has a chance to be an Allen Crabbe or Wesley Matthews type guy.
