3. Kevin Hervey

  • Height: 6’7”
  • Weight: 212 lbs
  • Position: SF
  • Age: 21

Kevin Hervey played four years in college and is declaring for the draft with great size at the small forward position. He is 6’7” with a 7’3.5” wingspan. He will play small forward in the NBA and maybe even some small-ball power forward.

Hervey was an excellent shooter in college, and that will translate into the NBA. He has a nice looking jump shot and has deep range. Hervey has some Nick Young, J.R. Smith-esque tendencies and gets a bit wild sometimes with his shots, but if he can get hot, he could be a game-changer just like Smith and Young.

In his four seasons at University of Texas at Arlington, Hervey averaged 5.5 3-point shots per game and shot 32.4 percent. Last year as a senior he shot 33.9 percent from the 3-point line (6.9 attempts per game) and 80.7 percent from the free throw line per game.

He was a high volume shooter every year in college and was asked to do a lot for his team. In the NBA, Hervey will take a step back and be more of a fourth or fifth option on the offense end. He will see way more open looks from the perimeter and won’t have to take a ton of shots every game.

Portland could use size and shooting on the wing and Hervey brings both those traits. The Blazers could use him off the bench to backup both Harkless and Aminu. Hervey would need to focus on playing smart defense and hitting spot-up shots.

He is a talented player that could be an excellent contributor in the right situation, and I think the Blazers would be an excellent match. Hervey has been projected as a second round pick, but if the Blazers feel like he is their guy they might just take him at No. 24.
