5. Chimezie Metu

  • Height: 6’10”
  • Weight: 220 lbs
  • Age: 21
  • Position: PF/C

After three seasons at USC, Chimezie Metu is declaring for the NBA Draft. Metu is 6’10” with a 7’0” wingspan who can play both power forward and center in the NBA. His physical tools are very appealing, but Metu is still raw in some areas of his game, and that is the reason he is being projected as a second pick.

Last season at USC, Metu averaged 15.7 points, 7.4 rebounds,1.7 blocks and 1.6 assists in 31 minutes per game while shooting 52.3 percent from the field and 30.0 percent from the 3-point line. In Bleacher Report‘s latest mock draft, they wrote, “Metu has the NBA body and a high skill level offensively, specifically as a scorer around the key with his post moves and mid-range touch.”

The Magic could potentially lose two of their big men in free agency this summer with Aaron Gordon and Marreese Speights. Even if they bring Gordon back, the Magic need some backup help at both frontcourt positions. Metu’s physical traits and ability to score the ball on offense in a variety of ways could see him get early minutes on a young Magic squad.

Metu has first round caliber if he can put it all together. The Ringer compared him to a “raw” Paul Millsap. If Metu can be anything like Millsap, the Magic would be getting a steal at No. 41.
