Utah Jazz: 2017-18 player grades for Donovan Mitchell

Strengths
One of the easiest and simplest ways to break down a player’s game is to identify what that player does well. It doesn’t always mean that it’s the only skill-set the player in question possesses, but it helps serve as a foundation for the rest of the analysis. For Mitchell, his building block is his ability to put the ball in the hoop, one that will serve him very well over the course of his career.
Being labeled a scorer in today’s NBA is a double-edged sword. The NBA awards players that score in bunches off the bench with the Sixth Man of the Year Award, but there’s a reason guys like Lou Williams and Jamal Crawford come off the bench — they’re one-dimensional. Luckily for Mitchell, he doesn’t have to worry about that label leaving any marks:
To lead a team in scoring is one thing. To lead a team in scoring and lead said team to the postseason after a certain homegrown superstar leaves? That’s even more impressive.
