Orlando Magic: 5 options for pick No. 35 in 2018 NBA Draft
1. Jevon Carter, PG — West Virginia
Unlike the other four players on this list, Jevon Carter at 35 would be a bit of a reach. While Jalen Brunson at least profiles as someone who can probably play 25 minutes a night, if Carter is playing that many minutes at the next level, they probably aren’t for a very good team. Carter will be 23 by the time the season starts and is the classic example of a guy with shooting guard skills in a point guard’s body (he measured out as barely six feet without shoes).
With all that being said, if there’s any organization in the league that needs a guy like Carter on its roster, it’s Orlando. Here’s what The Ringer‘s Kevin O’Connor had to say following the combine:
"West Virginia point guard Jevon Carter proved to be a pesky defender who can lock down opposing guards. On Thursday, the 22-year-old picked up Penn State’s Tony Carr and figuratively pantsed him. Kansas point guard Devonte’ Graham didn’t fare much better against Carter. The former Mountaineer still needs to rein in some of his decision-making on offense, but there are flashes of a Derek Fisher type of guard."
Even if Carter’s greatest value at the next level is to come in and set the tone during practice and push everyone else around him to be better, that’s something that the Magic desperately need.

Is it worth spending the 35th pick in the draft on? Probably not. But if they wait and try to get him with their next pick at No. 41, it’s a fair bet he’ll be gone. It might not be worth it for them to take the chance.
