6. Rudy Gobert’s monster early season performance

While Gobert’s defense was particularly important during the second half of the season, this early season performance against the Dallas Mavericks on Oct. 30 was certainly worthy of note.

Although the Jazz were facing a struggling Dallas Mavericks team on their home floor, this certainly doesn’t diminish the significance of Gobert’s outing. Playing 33 minutes, the 7’1″ Frenchman put up 17 points, 12 rebounds, six assists, six blocks and two steals while being a +32 on the floor.

Following the game, coach Snyder commented on Gobert’s performance:

"“Rudy’s rim protection, when he’s back there, you don’t need to over help….He had a very, very good night. I think what didn’t show up in the box scores is just the times he deters people from going to the rim….As much as anything, I was excited to see that he let the game come to him, and obviously he can be a huge impact on the game.”"

Gobert’s six assists represented a career high return, while his six blocks wound up remaining a season-high. In fact, Gobert’s stat line enabled him join an elite group of players who’ve posted at least 17 points, 12 rebounds, six assists and six blocks in 33 minutes or less:

Therefore, it’s fair to say this was a momentous occasion for Gobert, giving further credence to his selection to the NBA All-Defensive First Team.
