1. Landry Shamet

  • Height: 6’5”
  • Weight: 189 lbs
  • Age: 21
  • Position: PG

Landry Shamet played three seasons at Wichita State University and established himself as one of the top shooters in all of college basketball. At 6’5″, Shamet can handle the ball, is smart passer, gets to the basket, shoots well and plays hard on defense. The Ringer labeled him as a “knockdown shooter with NBA-level instincts, but his athletic limitations likely put a cap on his upside.”

Last season at Wichita State, Shamet averaged 14.9 points, 5.2 assists, 3.2 rebounds and 0.7 steals in 31.7 minutes per game while shooting 48.9 percent from the field and 44.2 percent from the 3-point line. Shamet was 13th in the NCAA in 3-point percentage this year.

The Nuggets have good guards that can shoot in Jamal Murray and Gary Harris. Shamet would be an excellent guard off the bench and could potentially fill the roles of Will Barton, Devin Harris and Monte Morris.

He could play next to either Harris or Murray and could even play with both guys if the Nuggets wanted to play three guards. Shamet is a high IQ player who puts in effort on both ends of the court. He could be the steal of the draft at No. 43 if he falls this far.

The Ringer compared him to Seth Curry, Denzel Valentine and Kevin Martin. Shamet is one of those guys who can come in and play right away in the NBA. He has a chance to be a starter and good all-around player, but even if he doesn’t figure it out, his ability to shoot will allow him to make a career in the NBA because teams always need shooters.
