Chicago Bulls: 5 options for pick No. 7 in 2018 NBA Draft
2. Melvin Frazier, SG/SF — Tulane
Most of the players that have been discussed today are either household names, or well on their way to becoming household names. However, there are a few sleepers that warrant an extended look as well.
One of the players I’m referring to is Melvin Frazier. During his junior campaign, Frazier posted averages of 15.9 points, 5.6 rebounds and 2.9 assists per outing. He shot an efficient 55.6 percent from the field, including a 38.5 percent conversion rate from beyond the arc.
Strengths:
- Good size and length. Stands at 6”6” with a 7’2″ wingspan.
- Very athletic.
- Can guard multiple positions.
- Has active hands, which helps him create turnovers. Averaged 2.2 steals per contest.
- Increased output in scoring, rebounding assists and steals in each of the last two seasons.
Weaknesses:
- Average free throw shooter. Converted just 71.2 percent of attempts from the charity stripe.
- Tendency to have lapses on the defensive end of the court.
- Can be careless with the basketball. Averaged 2.6 turnovers per outing.
As was the case with Jimmy Butler back in 2011, Frazier is known more for his defense than what he does from an offensive standpoint. Lke Butler, he has the potential to become a threat at both ends of the floor, thus making him a good fit for the Bulls as well as any other NBA team.
