2018 NBA Playoffs: Houston Rockets vs. Utah Jazz preview
Predictions
If we were to look at this matchup on paper, the Rockets, led by two future Hall-of-Famers, would have a clear edge. As we all know, though, this game isn’t played on paper.
Jazz coach Quin Snyder has done a remarkable job in developing an offensive system predicated on both ball and player movement, making it easier to function without a true superstar and giving every player the opportunity to have a big night on any night.
With an elite defense to back that up, Utah is a dangerous team.
However, let’s not doubt Houston’s talent on the defensive end, as the team ranked sixth in defensive rating during the regular season with versatile defenders that afford them the ability to mix and match lineups to dictate the style of play within each game.
The Jazz are a feisty team, and they certainly won’t be star-struck by the Rockets, but this is not a Mike D’Antoni team of the past. Houston is disciplined on both sides, which allows it to be less reliant on its offense, should it struggle for stretches against Utah’s defense.
This will be a tough matchup for both teams, but Houston’s star power, coupled with their two-way greatness, will simply be too much to overcome for a Jazz team with a tremendously bright future.
