5. Sign-and-trade

The Grizzlies turned a lot of heads at the trade deadline when they failed to move shooting guard Tyreke Evans. More of a combo guard, Evans was in the middle of a resurgent season that saw him put up averages of 19.4 points, 5.2 assists and 5.1 rebounds in just over 30 minutes a game.

His play could’ve certainly helped out a few contenders in search of more offensive weapons, and with his value at an all-time high, those teams no doubt would’ve been willing to part with some nice assets. The Grizzlies failed to pull the trigger on any deal, and now they risk losing Evans for nothing.

With free agency set to come for the nine-year pro, the best the Grizzlies can do is to execute a sign-and-trade with another team, although the haul would be less than what they could’ve received earlier in the season, considering they couldn’t snag two second round picks or a first-rounder as they intended.

The Grizzlies could always re-sign Evans, but with so much money tied up elsewhere, bringing back the 28-year-old on a long-term deal makes little to no sense.

Memphis will have to hope and pray that it’s able to execute a sign-and-trade to help them with their expected rebuild in some way.
