Los Angeles Clippers: 5 takeaways from 2017-18 NBA season
2. Tobias Harris is here to stay
As arguably the biggest piece in the trade that sent Blake Griffin to the Detroit Pistons, Tobias Harris was expected to assume Griffin’s role as the primary scorer within the starting unit.
In 32 games with L.A., Harris did just that, averaging 19.3 points per game on 47.4 percent shooting as well as a career-high 41.4 percent conversion rate from 3-point range.
At a burly 6’9″ and 235 pounds, Harris fits the mold of a prototypical stretch forward, capable of bullying smaller guys while being able to blow past larger, slower big men.
Slotting Harris at the 4-spot, something coach Doc Rivers did 95 percent of the time, gave the Clippers added spacing while forcing the defense to matchup in ways they weren’t accustomed to.
Today’s NBA is all about versatility on both sides of the ball, and Harris gives the Clippers an advantage that most teams simply don’t have.
