Predictions

This is my favorite first round series in the Eastern Conference and one I expect to go at least six games. Philadelphia has the talent advantage and is playing as well as anybody in the NBA right now, but Miami has playoff experience on its roster and coaching staff, which could play a role if Philly’s younger players shrink in the moment.

I’d also be patient with regards to Joel Embiid returning to top-level form out of the blocks whenever he is cleared and ready to play. He has a tough matchup in Whiteside when he does return, making his defense potentially more important than his offense in this series.

I tend to lean toward experience in this setting, especially considering these teams split the season series and the 76ers could be without Embiid for multiple games. But I’m leaning toward Philly in this series because I don’t see Miami having an answer for Ben Simmons.

Philadelphia has the two best players in the series in Embiid and Simmons, and a plethora of shooter around them. I expect the home-court advantage to make a difference this time around, and Simmons is a walking mismatch, especially at his current production.

Simmons, Embiid (when he returns) and the quality depth around them are enough to overcome Miami, with Philly taking down the Heat in seven games.
