Blake Griffin: 3 reasons he is a legitimate MVP candidate

2. His 3-point shooting looks like it has improved tremendously
After signing his brand new max contract, Griffin was determined to solidify a facet of his game that he has been trying to perfect over the last few seasons. Before this season, Griffin has never attempted more than 1.9 3-pointers per game, but that number has jumped to 5.2 attempts per game through 10 games this season.
Blake Griffin is not just attempting more 3-pointers per game, he is making 40.4 percent of the shots he takes from beyond the arc. This is the best percentage of his career, and just shows the growth of Griffin’s game as a result of signing his new contract.
These statistics should strike fear into the Clippers’ opponents, as Griffin was already a lethal force attacking the paint. If he forces teams to start defending him tightly along the 3-point line, it’ll open up opportunities for Griffin to put it on the floor and attack, and for center DeAndre Jordan to have room to work underneath.
These are the types of qualities that an MVP candidate tends to possess. Griffin helps his team win just by forcing opponents to gameplan around his ability to stretch the floor. If he continues his red-hot 3-point shooting, it’ll be difficult to ignore him as a potential MVP.
