Damien Wilkins, SG/SF

Previous Team: Greensboro Swarm (D-League)

2016-17 Statistics: 14.8 PPG, 5.3 RPG, 3.8 APG

Damien Wilkins comes to the Pacers with an interesting background. His father, Gerald, was a good NBA player in his day. Damien’s uncle (Dominique Wilkins) was a superstar and Hall-of-Famer.

Damien Wilkins was not drafted out of the University of Georgia in 2004, but that did not deter the 6’6″ swingman. He caught on with the Seattle SuperSonics in 2004-05, and played nine years in the league for six different teams through 2013.

In recent years, the 37-year-old Wilkins has bounced around the D-League as well as put in some time playing overseas. Wilkins is coming off a productive season with the Greensboro Swarm in 2016-17.

Indiana signed Wilkins to a non-guaranteed, veteran minimum deal for the upcoming season, so he will have to earn his way onto the roster in order to cash any further checks from the Pacers.

Indiana likely sees Wilkins as a good guy to have in training camp to push the rotation players in practice and perhaps impart some wisdom to the younger players on the team.

Wilkins may not make the Pacers’ 2017-18 regular season roster, but even if he doesn’t, he should be a good influence on his teammates during training camp and the preseason.
