2017 NBA free agency: 5 best remaining free agents
2. JaMychal Green
Be honest. Before the season started, did you know who JaMychal Green was or what team he played for? I didn’t think so.
After a breakout 2016-17 season that saw Green average career-highs in points per game (8.9), rebounds (7.1), assists (1.1), three-point percentage (37.9 percent) and offensive rating (117), he’s become a known commodity.
As yet another restricted free agent, this 27-year-old is at the mercy of the market — a market that, so far at least, hasn’t been kind to free agents of his kind.
As the Memphis Grizzlies continue to be patient, Green hasn’t gotten any hard offers from teams. The Bulls and Spurs are reported to be interested but only as a backup option to their initial plan.
This University of Alabama product is just now coming into his own in the league and teams aren’t going to want to miss out on this player. He fits the mold of a stretch-4 and someone who can play multiple positions.
This is becoming increasingly important all across the league as more and more teams move to position-less basketball.
After shooting a career-high from beyond the arc last season, Green’s also showing that he’s expanding his game in the most critical way.
