Otto Porter Jr.: 4 years, $106 million offer sheet (Brooklyn Nets/Washington Wizards)

Like the Sacramento Kings, the Brooklyn Nets have offered restricted free agent Otto Porter Jr. a four-year max contract. Porter plans to sign the Nets’ offer sheet once the moratorium period is over, which will give the Washington Wizards until noon on July 8 to match.

For Brooklyn, pushing all the chips to the middle of the table for a prospect like Porter makes sense. He’s only 24 years old, he’d fit their rebuilding timeline and they have more than enough cap room to throw money at quality restricted free agents. Best-case scenario, they land a quality two-way player who shot 43.4 percent from deep last year. Worst-case, they force the Wizards to pay more than they were hoping to shell out to keep him.

For the Wizards, this is a less than ideal outcome for a team strapped for cap space and still in need of bench upgrades. Unfortunately, matching is their best option since Washington is unlikely to find a quality replacement on the open market with such limited cap space. Porter isn’t worth $26.5 million a year in a vacuum, but it looks like that’s what it’ll cost the Wizards to keep John Wall’s faith in this franchise going strong.
